1939 Vega C-66 $1050 By the time Elmer Stromberg started building guitars in Boston, the Vega Company had been making instruments in that city for over a generation. One of the preeminent banjo manufacturers, Vega introduced its first archtop in 1933, and continued making top-flight hand carved instruments for several decades. The Vega C-66 was an upmarket model equivalent to the Gibson L-12 or Epiphone Broadway, and priced accordingly. This instrument is an outstanding example from their prime years, with a solid handcarved bookmatched spruce top and handsome tiger flame maple back and sides, and a really interesting wooden tailpiece .

A VERY NICE GUITAR AND ONE WE DON'T GET VERY OFTEN! THE UPPER FRETS (OVER THE BODY) HAVE BEEN FILED (BY SOME FOOL WHO DIDN'T KNOW WHAT A TRUSS ROD WAS FOR) TO GAIN LOWER ACTION. SINCE ONE DOESN'T USUALLY PLAY THOSE FRETS ON A NON-CUTAWAY GUITAR ANYWAY, IT REALLY DOESN'T HURT THE PLAYABILITY. THE FRETS IN GENERAL ARE GETTING A BIT ON THE LOW SIDE, NOT GROOVED, JUST LOW, THEY'VE PROBABLY BEEN MILLED, SO AT SOME POINT THEY'LL NEED TO BE REPLACED. Our guitar teacher played it and really likes the neck and the sound! (not to mention all the extra goodies).
